Pier Eight Restaurant Review
During our visit to The Lowry, Manchester to watch the fantastic Shrek Musical Live we had the opportunity to try the theatre’s newly opened Pier Eight restaurant.
As our readers know we aren’t the biggest foodies with one of the reasons being that we find it difficult to find “family friendly” places to eat where the needs of children and adults are met alike. When I saw that the Pier Eight had a separate dining area for families I thought it was a fantastic idea. Combining great food, beautiful surroundings and the chance for families to have a a great meal together without worrying about disturbing adult diners sounded like a perfect combination to us.
Whilst Shrek the Musical is showing at the Lowry the Pier Eight family dining theme is around Shrek. I loved the children’s themed menu and Maya was very excited to have the Smelly Orge Ears (Garlic bread), Puss in Boots Tea (Fish & chips) and The Muffin Man. There was colour pages and crayons for the kids and scenes from the film being shown. The setting of Pier Eight is ideal for those visiting the theatre but also as a meal choice for anyone visiting Media City, Lowry or even the IWM North across the bridge. The setting was beautiful especially at night and the full length Windows provided gorgeous views of the Quays and IWM.
The food was gorgeous. We had two little adventurers, doc and myself and we all left the restaurant completely stuffed. The food was beautiful both taste and presentation wise and we were really impressed with the quality of the restaurant. I loved the effort and details that went into each course, my dessert in particular was a true highlight birth taste and predation wise. The kids were totally wowed by it.
The restaurant is priced inline with any nice restaurant that you can find in Manchester but has the added benefit of being a great place to dine with children. I would recommend the restaurants to families looking for a lovely meal in a “fancy” restaurant without worrying about the children and knowing that children will be truly welcomed at the restaurant. The restaurant is perfect before a show and it really makes a complete theatre and dining experience for all the family.
A really helpful review will try the restaurant next time we visit the Lowry with our two children.
I really like the idea of a separate dining area for families – I often worry that my kids will start fussing (luckily this hasn’t happened yet but there’s always the worry) and would hate for them to disturb other child-free diners where as if you are dining with other families they are on the same page as you so it wouldn’t be as much of a worry. The food looks divine, especially dessert.
What a great idea to have a separate area for families, especially in a more upmarket restaurant. I have never been to The Lowry but it looks a gorgeous theatre, and great that you can combine it with the restaurant for a fantastic night out x
