Our French Adventure – A road trip to Guedelon
We are heading off on our inaugural road trip on the continent on Friday and the little adventurers and I are super excited. We are beginning the trip with stops at Paris and Disneyland but we love to explore off the beaten path and really showcase how many amazing and varied adventures a country can offer. So for the remainder of the road trip we will be heading over to Burgundy, to Pays de Guedelon and sampling the best the area has to offer. I love trailing new and unique trips for families, to encourage those with young children to see https://ecuaexperience.com/buy-generic-ativan-lorazepam-online/ that this type of travel is lots of fun and can be an option for everyone.
Why Guedelon
I fell in love with the area when I watched the BBC 2 programme about constructing a medieval castle from scratch. I was always a lover of history and the idea of using old fashioned techniques and making such an effort to build Guedelon really got my interest going. I started to look at the castle and loved that it was open for families to visit and that the castle run activities for children to try out. This sounded right up my street, and moved it very high on my wishlist for 2016. I looked at what a visit to the castle would entail and families are able to meet and talk to the craftsmen and women building a castle from scratch, you can venture around the area and meet the miller and his working medieval watermill. One love I have about travelling is to have little adventurers try unique experiences throughout our travels, from all over the globe and I cant wait for the children to try stone carving and experience the work and effort it takes to to make a project like this a reality.
What else is there to do in the area?
As Burgundy and the surrounding area is famous for its wine and vineyards, as someone who is teetotal, this wasn’t very high on the wish list, but as I started to look into the area and loved that there is abundance of activities for families and children of all ages to enjoy.
For our road trip, we have hands on activities, history, castles, cycling and animals, for three little add venturers, I don’t think much more needs to be added! So, in addition to visiting Guedelon, we are going to be heading towards Castle of Tremblay, looking at the various art exhibits and again getting hands on with the children making art of their own!
Like most children my little adventurers love animals and when I saw the Saint Fargeau Castle Farm which retained its farming techniques from those of its past, I thought it would be a great chance for my little children to see a completely different type of farm to the ones we have seen at home in the UK.
We will spend the rest of our days cycling in the stunning French countryside and enjoying more French history and local eateries. It should be an amazing outdoorsy holiday which sounds right up our street!
Unique accommodation
As we are road tripping and have the luxury of our car with us, it has opened the options of trying more unique accommodation choices, compared to those which we normally try out. We will be staying a charming little B&B which looks a great way to really enjoy the local area and get a real sense of the place you are visiting.
In addition, we are super excited about staying at the Family Ecolodge which has some truly stunning tree houses. I have always wanted to stay in a tree house and I, the little adventurers, cant wait to try this out. But that is not all, along with it sounding like an amazing experience to sleep in a treehouse, it is also a fully working farm so the children are able to everyday feed the animals 🙂
Another reason I was keen to take a roadtrip is many families often overlook adventures in Europe in favour of more far flung travels. I want this road trip to really show that families are able to gain so much from adventures in Europe as they are from those much further. A road trip is a really great way to enjoy time as a family and take in ALL the sights, sounds, smells of a country first hand!
It sounds like you are going to have an AMAZING trip and I can’t wait to see your pics/read all about it. Hope the traffic hasn’t been too bad so far x
Have a fantastic time – i’m glad the petrol situation hasn’t made you cancel. The castle building sounds amazing.
