Review of The Geronimo Festival

The Geronimo festival is the newest family festival on the block and promised to be a fantastic day out to families who were visiting.  After visiting yesterday we can confirm not only did it deliver on all the promises it had made but it far exceeded what we had expected from the event.  Below is our full review of the Geronimo Festival and all the details on how Geronimo managed to not only create a fantastic event but totally wowed all the visitors who attended the first day.

The choice of Tatton Park was an ideal one.  In the midst of such a stunning backdrop, it was an great choice to really showcase the organised mayhem and outdoorsy theme the festival wanted to promote.  One aspect I loved about the location was the size of the estate. Tatton park is huge and it really helped to have the festival spread over a nice area to ensure that there never was a feeling of it being too busy.  The whole day was really calm and given the multitude of activities that were on, it was refreshing to have the feeling of space.  But coupled with this, the designated site for the festival was just right so little legs did not get too tired and you can easily manage a pushchair to all the areas of the festival.

Activities

Wow, just wow! The number of activities that are available on the day was amazing.  There was something for everyone in the family from the smallest to the 12 year old and from the crafty to the outdoorsy.  The festival is split into several different zones which housed activities from that theme.  From the Adrenaline zone to the groovy one there was something for everyone’s tastes.

The huge choice of activities also meant that there was enough for all the festival goers to be entertained without the usual backlog of queues and lots of waiting around.  With so many activities, the queue times (except for the Helter Skelter and Zip wire) were minimal. It was so lovely to go to event of this scale and not spend the majority of the time queueing for a ride or activity before moving on the next queue.  Within a few minutes you would be able to try most activities which is a big thumbs up for us.

The range and breadth of activities was fantastic. I loved the fact that Geronimo has striven to get in some truly unique and fantastic activities that the children will love and remember for some time.  The tree nets were fantastic and something that I haven’t seen before.  I heard so many parents talking about how they couldn’t believe how fantastic the nets were and how much fun the kids were having. Zip wires are quite a common staple in most playgrounds nowadays but Geronimo took something we are used to and made it even more fun. The Zip wire was great, located at quite a height and could be used by both adults and kids alike.  Truly gutted to have missed it.

The favourites in the fiveadventurers house were:

  • Tree nets
  • Dancing school and then being able to perform on the dance stage.
  • Luke and Emma live on stage
  • The celebrity Meet and greets

Choice of acts

With any festival the stage is one of the biggest draws and the headline acts chosen for the Geronimo festival were spot on for the target audience.  Having a number of well known celebrities is always a great touch and really makes it memorable for children. But Geronimo not only chose some of the biggest names in the children entertainment sector they managed to choose truly amazing and highly entertaining stage performers.  There was a real sense of fun and enthusiasm emitting from everyone who performed on the stage and this resulted in a very engaged and excited audience.  We are huge hi-5 fans here so Luke and Emma were our pick but every performer I saw was fab and the face of every young festival goer was a sight to behold.

Meet and greets

This was a really lovely touch.  Often my biggest complaint is when attractions charges additional money to have the chance to meet and be photographed with the celebrities and performers from the shows.  I loved the fact that at Geronimo there was no cost for meeting the stars and photos could be taken.  There are designated slot times for these meet and greets so be sure to check these out before you go.  Two very nice things that I will remember is our youngest walking up to Mr Bloom and saying hello, Mr Bloom then stopped to chat with my boy adventurers about his veggies and asking about their plans for the holidays.  He was genuinely so interested in what they were saying and the boys loved it. Secondly, when we met Luke and Emma, Maya told them how much she loved their Hi-5 show.  As they were leaving the meet and greet area, Luke shouted “bye Maya” and my daughter’s face was literally aglow with sheer delight!

Food and drink / amenities

We are big fans of picnics so we always bring a picnic lunch for us all.  However, there are so many food options available that I am sure there will be something that will suit everyone’s tastes.  From the feedback from the other parents at the event, they all commented that there were tons of variety, good quality and reasonably priced food available.  Again, the queues were very short here so it meant that there wasn’t the usual stress of planning and taking a huge dent out of your day for buying and eating lunch.  Yesterday turned into a glorious day and even the queues for the ice cream was only a few minutes.  I loved the fact that there were places to refill water bottles which is a must for young children spending all day out in the heat and partaking in lots of active things.

There are lot of loos scattered around the event and were mostly well maintained.  Again the queues were short which is always good when you have a 4 year old who desperately needs the toilet there and then!

Atmosphere

There was a fantastic atmosphere in the grounds.  It was very relaxed and very calm.  There was a very fun and carnival feel to the event from the pimped up scooters with wings to the huge fluttering butterflies.  Even though there are activities all over the grounds, this never affected the mood of the event and there was a lovely vibe about the place.  We loved the eyes that had been added to random trees, our little adventurers loved them and its almost like they are following you 🙂

Nisbah

I am a traveller, mother and blogger. We love to go on adventures (big and small, near and far) and strive to show our children how amazing and beautiful the world is! I caught the travel bug many moons ago and despite having three little adventurers, I still suffer from "itchy" feet. We love the great outdoors and one another. Come and join the fun :)

I had really fancied going to this and wanted to combine it with a weekend at my friend’s nearby. But they couldn’t make it, and it was just too long a drive to go for a day.

Looks like the organisers did a really good job, and I’ll be booking in earlier with my friend to go next year.

  5. We are always keen on going on festivals. This one looks so amazing but I have found out about it late and its a bit pricey for us. Amazing event though. Maybe we can save and go next year. #countrykids

  6. This festival looked so good, but too far for us to justify going. Glad you all had a good time. I am so jealous you met Mr Bloom (swoon) and good to hear he had so much time for the kids.
