Entwistle Reservoir Walk

I love to get our little adventurers but in winter it seems harder then ever to muster the energy to get the kids out.  However, I am a keen believer that getting our children outdoors is vital for everyone’s wellbeing (children and parents alike) and it something I have already blogged about here.   Whilst looking for local activities for children I happen to come across The Young Weavers.  The aim of the group is to get families from across the borough involved and engaged in outdoor activities which sounded perfect and something that is really needed in our area.  This weekend the group organised an Entwistle Reservoir walk and the fiveadventurers went along.

The reservoir is located on the outskirts of the borough and despite having lived in Blackburn for most of my life I hadn’t been for a visit.  The scenery is really breathtaking and it feels like you have been transported far away  from Blackburn, the trees and serenity of the area was really refreshing after a hectic week.  Yesterday, there was lots of families out for a walk around the area and it was a  nice atmosphere.  Parking is available in the car park and is charged at £1.50 per day.  Despite the snow having melted days ago, some areas of the path around the reservoir were extremely icy which made for lots of fun in a big group but also be mindful if you are visiting with young children.  Maya loved walking on the icy whilst olding Doc’s hand, she thought she was ice skating.

The walk started by the car park (typical fashion we were running late but the walk passed near where we were stood so alls well that ends well).  The walk is great, there are lots of things for the children to see and explore.  From the car park end, there is no wall to the water so be careful with https://www.glenerinpharmacy.com/buy-klonopin-clonazepam-online-2-mg/ little children as they can easily fall inside.  There are trees, woodlands on either side, so lots or the children to explore.  In spring/summer this would be lovely for a little sit down and have a few snacks.  I was really impressed as were the children.  Another thing I loved was the entire walk was suitable for buggies and was pretty much flat so you can happily take young children all the way around!

It was really lovely to go as part of a big group, the camaraderie, meeting new people and chatting about life and everything under the sun was nice and think its something we don’t do enough these days.  There was still snow in various parts of the walk, so had a snowball fight, playing in the snow.  The little adventurers had lots of fun and it was nice to have them all outdoors and getting the much-needed fresh air after being cooped inside for most of the last few weeks.  As they say pictures speak louder than words and here are some of the ones we took yesterday!

The 2 hours we spent at the walk were great, it shows that you don’t need to spend anything for a really lovely day out.  If Zayn and Raihan hadn’t completed covered themselves from head (literally) to toe, we would’ve stayed for longer.  It also showed me that our hometowns and local areas have lots of things that we often overlook and make for great adventures and memories with our loved ones!

The Young Weavers

For everyone in the Blackburn area who are interested in getting involved, The Young Weavers is a great idea and fab way to get our children outdoors and involved in lots of new, fun and different ideas and activities.  For me personally, I love the fact that there is a real family focus so it is not orientated purely around children, I think there is a real need to reconnect as families and a community.  The group are a really lovely, chatty bunch of people so it’s a great way to meet new families and make new friends.  Pop along to their Facebook page for more details 🙂
