The State of Fun: Sentosa Activites Reviewed

We visited Sentosa Island in August and despite several busy weeks passing since our visit, my little adventurers still speak of their time on the resort with huge smiles and amazing memories.  Their eyes literally shine with happiness and THIS is why we travel.  But to be fair, what is there not to love? the island is literally jam-packed with amazing activities and experiences  from ziprides and bungee jumping, to Universal Studios to the fabulous Luge (and once is definitely not enough!) to glorious food choices, there is endless options for families to enjoy!

IMG_1602

The area of the island is only close to 5 km² but is growing year upon year.  Family travellers are guaranteed to have days full of activities, fun and countless magical memories.  I will be honest, Sentosa is not cheap especially when you compare it to other parts of Asia (after Thailand the increase in prices is very noticeable) but the prices are on par with Singapore prices and what you would expect to pay in any of the leading cities in the world.  Sentosa have lots of great packages which allow families to experience lots of different of activities.

Activities

The Mega Zip

This was one of the highlights for all of our group.  We had my sister and niece travelling with us so this activity really made an impact as everyone has been (and continue to) rave about it.  The experience will be covered in a separate post, but overall we loved:

IMG_1548

  • the setting: zip-lining over blue oceans, jungles and stunning beaches, there is not a more stunning place to try this.
  • kitting up: getting all the equipment on and having my little adventurers looking like real adventurers was a proud mummy moment!  The straps are really heavy so be aware that the children may be wearing this for some time!
  • the age restriction of this activity was much lower then other zip rides I  have seen.  All of our children could have a try and it made it something that they could all share.  I will leave you with a video of Zayn (aged 2) and my niece on the Megazip.  Younger children are able to tandem ride with parents so to ease any worries for the children and parent alike!IMG_1534

The Mega Bounce

You will have all seen the Trampoline with harnesses all over the world but the Sentosa one is amazing.  Not that there is anything fundamentally different but the height and jumping capacity they give the children just does not compare to any others that you will have seen or been on.  My little adventurers, especially Maya and Zayn are adrenaline junkies and screamed higher and higher and we had a whole crowd of tourists watching them in awe.  My heart literally was in my mouth watching them but they had the best time.  Just look at that picture, its crazy how high he was going!

Adventure Land

4D shows are all the rage and Sentosa has 4D options in abundance.  They have 3 different 4D shows, the Log Ride, Journey to Mysterious Island and and our favourite was the shooting ranch ride.  We loved the Journey to the Mysterious Island as one of the things that I dislike about 4D shows in general is that the actual story in the film is a little boring with all the efforts usually paced on the special effects.  Here the actual film was fantastic and since our return we have watched the film (though without the 4D effects its not nearly as fun!)  Our favourite was definitely the shooting ride.  The little adventurers loved being able to hold the guns and shooting down the baddies, and to top it all, me and Zayn were the winners from the whole room 🙂

Sentosa Merlion

IMG_1749

The Merlion is the most iconic of all images which people associate with Singapore.  The merlion in Sentosa is HUGE especially when compared to the merlion on the mainland.  The visit is definitely worth a trip especially as there is a short video at the entrance explaining the story of the Merlion.  We love our children learning about the places we visit and take home stories about the different culture they see.  This was my third visit to Singapore and this was the first time I had actually heard the story of the Merlion.  Visitors are able to get a lift to the head of the Merlion, Raihan was a little freaked by the mouth but the walk and view from the top is great and you get to see the island from a birds eye view.

Port of Lost Adventure

IMG_1707

No stay in Singapore is complete without some quality time spent in the water.  As the little adventurers are of varying swimming abilities we visited the Port of Lost Wonder for lots of water fun where they could all have a good play.  The attraction is great and is designed to be the first kids club by the beach.  There are lots of activities to occupy children from the great water play area, to a number of activities on all day from crafts to games for the children to play.   There is a great restaurant onsite, perfect for a quick bite whilst having a little breather (or shelter from the rain).  The platters were huge and enough for all 7 of us.

Segway

IMG_2507

The Segway adventure, its a great way to see Sentosa.  As Zayn was too young, I ventured with the children to the Port of Lost Wonder and the other adults had a try at this.  Segways are a fun activity to try out and zooming around the gorgeous setting of Sentosa is possibly one of the most picturesque settings for a ride.  I was gutted to have missed out on this adventure but the others returned and had a fab morning.  I think mornings tend to be the quietest so if you have younger children who may be less confident on the Segways, this may be the ideal time to try this.

Wings of Time

IMG_1638

In the evening, Sentosa hosts a magnificent light, fire and water show.  I loved the previous show the Songs of the Sea which was perfect for little adventurers.  The new show is still a visual spectacle and the choreography and timing is done to perfection but the children were a little confused about the storyline.   I would still recommend the show to visitors to the island and its a great way to end the evening.   There a are two showings in the evening and at the cost of ….. it is definately one of those shows that you will remeber for some time.

IMG_1624

Beaches

Located on the coast of Singapore, Sentosa offers stunning beaches from Palawan Beach to Silosa.  During the week, the beaches were very quiet and perfect for a little break and letting the children have a run around.  There are lots of activities on both beaches so you can easily combine some time on the beach with other activities.  We had such busy days that we didn’t really get to enjoy the beach but they looked amazing!

Resorts World Sentosa

IMG_1850

Resorts World has brought a number of great and new attractions to Sentosa, which just adds to the variety and choice for families.  During our visit we visited the brilliant Universal Studios, the SEA Aquarium and Trick Eye Museum.

Universal Studios

At Universal, we had a great time on the rides and there was something for everyone, from great shows, fabulous rides (including the worlds biggest dual roller-coaster which our 6 year old went on!) to lots of family friendly choices.  We have been to lots of theme parks and one of the best rides I have been on was the Transformer ride.  Its not a fancy roller-coaster but it was great and one of the best 4D rides I have been on. Raihan was totally wowed by it as was my 19 year old niece.  Universal Studios has great shows, meet and greets and a whole host of other activities to keep you busy for a full day (and even then you may still not have managed it all!

SEA Aquarium

the Aquarium is HUGE.  You can easily spend hours in the place as there is so much to see, read and learn about that it can be a little overwhelming.  The fish tanks were great and so immaculately maintain that our little adventurers were enchanted by them all.  We have visited lots of aquariums on our travels but this was one of the best ones we have visited.  For any lovers of sea creatures, this is a must!  As a true daughter of a blogger, Maya took control of the camera for this visit and these are her snaps below.

The Trick Eye Museum

IMG_1349

The Trick Eye Museum is one of the most unique museums you will visit.  There are fabulous displays throughout the museum which create optical illusions and are visually stunning.  The displays are interactive so you can star in the images and illusions.  The displays are great but we had visited a similar exhibition in Chiang Mai which was much bigger and the picture choices were a lot more varied and captivating.  If you are travelling to Chiang Mai I would visit the museum there but if you are only in Singapore, this is worth a visit!

The Luge

IMG_0959

Invented in New Zealand Luge is a fun-filled gravity thrill ride which is safe for all ages. With a unique braking and steering system, you can expereince a new and fun ride!  The Luge in Sentosa is fantastic and you can take the ride down at your own pace or race down crazily (Like Doc and Zayn!)  There are two courses in the Luge and you can choose to the 688 metre Dragon trail or 628 metre Jungle trail.

IMG_0962

Connected to the Luge, you can compete the experience with the Skyride. Board the Skyride for a scenic bird’s eye view of Sentosa Island, Singapore city Skyline and South China Sea.  Our children have never been skiing so they loved having a ride across the jungles on the skyride!

IMG_1780

Butterfly Park

IMG_0901

On our last visit to Sentosa we loved the Butterfly Park and there were hundreds of butterflies flying everywhere.  My niece was 14 years old at the time and was captivated by them all.  Our visit to the Park during our current visit was not as fun.  It could be due to the rain storm that had followed but there were much less butterflies in the enclosure and when compared to our last visit they were much more reluctant to come and fly near the visitors!  It was a shame as our Maya loves butterflies and had been eagerly awaiting seeing them.  The park also has a number of birds that you can hold and a fabulous collection of different butterflies and insects from across the world.  This part of the Park is really educational and it shows how crazy the insect world is!

What we thought

Sentosa is a fantastic place is spend a few days in Singapore.  For any family travellers I would whole heartedly recommend that you visit the island for at least a full day.  If you are travelling with younger children I found staying on the island to be an ideal way to really make most of the amazing activities that the island has to offer.  The activities listed above were the only ones we tried on our 3 days on the island.  There are so many others that we would have loved to try but there just wasn’t enough time.  The island offers lots of different packages of offers so make sure you plan ahead the activities that you want to do to ensure that you make the most of the time on the island.  We had an AMAZING time on the island and have made memories which we will cherish for a long time!

Have you been to Sentosa?  we would love to hear what you thought?

We were guests of Sentosa Island but all and opinions are our own.

Nisbah

I am a traveller, mother and blogger. We love to go on adventures (big and small, near and far) and strive to show our children how amazing and beautiful the world is! I caught the travel bug many moons ago and despite having three little adventurers, I still suffer from "itchy" feet. We love the great outdoors and one another. Come and join the fun :)

Lydia, it is soooo amazing isn’t it. We had express passes so didn’t have to queue for very long but we weren’t sure if the long wait time was justified but after the ride it was so great, we would have loved to have gone again!

I was on the Transformers ride at the Universal Studios Hollywood location this year, and loved it. Your vacation seemed like a lot of fun, and I’m so happy there was stuff for the younger ones to enjoy. I always get upset when we pay so much for them, and there is hardly any ride they can go on.

I have never been to Sentosa, never even heard of it before now but I’m ready to visit… like right now.

Alhamdulillah, there’s so much to see and appreciate of nature, though we get caught up in our daily activities. Such opportunities are needed to enjoy the beauty of Allah’s creations.

I love aquariums, fast rides and water. And I love exploring the outdoors.

  13. I’m from Singapore and even then I can’t get enough of Sentosa! You seem to have covered more of Sentosa than I have in my 30+ years of life though… For e.g. I haven’t visited the Trick Eye Museum and Megazip… Yet. But definitely, once is never enough for the luge. Every time I go to Sentosa, the boys would be like, “LUGE! LUGE!”
